Al Azhar University

Al Azhar University is the world's largest Islamic scholarly religious institution and the second university established in the world after the University of Al-Karaouine and it is located in Cairo, Egypt.

History records that (Al-Azhar) was established in the first era of the Fatimid state in Egypt, collectively in the name of (Cairo Mosque, which was later called Al-Azhar), where its foundation stone was laid on the twenty-fourth of Jumada Al-Awwal 359 AH / 970 CE, and in which the caliph Al-Muizz Al-Din Al-Fatimid, the second successor of the Fatimid state, prayed.

The first Friday prayer of Ramadan in the year 361 AH / 972AD, marking its formal adoption of the new state, and a seat for spreading religion and science in the seminars that were organized in it, and was initiated by Judge Abu Hanifa bin Muhammad Al-Qayrawani, a judge of the caliph Al-Mu’izzidin Allah, and the teaching of this judge came after him and others, besides studying other sciences in religion, language, readings, logic and astronomy.

According to the world ranking from the World University’s Weibo Matrix of Universities, Al Azhar University is ranked 74 in Africa and 8,019 globally among universities and studying in it is restricted to Muslims only. Al Azhar University has become one of the bodies of the honorable Al Azhar, specializing in higher education in Al Azhar, along with other bodies for education before the first university stage, and another for the Supreme Council of Al Azhar, and a third for the Islamic Research Complex that specializes in disseminating Islamic culture and manifesting heritage and purifying it from the impurities that have been attached to it, and the affairs of invitation and delegations Students in the outside world and their subsistence, and dorms have been established for them for subsistence, residence and physical and psychological care, especially for those who come to Al Azhar for grants provided to them, in addition to the grants offered by the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments (the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs) in addition to mutual Islamic delegations and Islamic cultural centers Egypt has established in many European American and African countries as well as educational institutes.
