Budgeting in Egypt
Rent and daily costs are paid in Egyptian pounds (EGP), while tuition and Ministry fees are charged in US dollars. Prices have changed quickly in recent years, so recheck your budget close to departure. Greater Cairo, especially New Cairo and Sheikh Zayed, usually costs more than Alexandria, Mansoura, Assiut and other regional university cities. Include housing deposits, transport, food, medical tests, health cover and the yearly residence-permit fees.
