South Valley National University is a national (ahliya) university created by Presidential Decree 420 of 2022 on a 41-feddan walled site in the north-eastern part of South Valley University's main campus in Qena, next to the parent university's medical city. Teaching started in 2022/2023 with medicine and surgery, computers and artificial intelligence and physical therapy, and pharmacy (2023/2024), nursing, engineering and administrative and financial sciences (2024/2025) were authorised later by ministerial decrees.
